Before The Dawn.
Disclaimer: Don't own MR, James Patterson does. See, he's the writer. Don't own
the song, Evanescence does. ---
Because before the dawn is their time. A time that means everything for the boy who is as dark as a shadow come
to life. A time that he can finally be himself, away from the rest of the flock, with their eyes that see far too much.
And
it is the time in which Iggy, the boy who lives in constant darkness, day and night, feels the safest. Maybe it's because
now everyone is as sightless as he is.
Maybe that is why they love each other. Because they are both darkness personified.
Meet me after dark again and I'll hold you.
And anything that means anything in the flocks existence
pales in comparison to this. Because none of that is important, and this is everything to them.
I am nothing
more than to see you there.
Fang can't exist like an emotionless robot, like some people thinks he does. He's
a human being, well, almost. 98% human, so he's entitled to 98% human emotion.
That 2% bird does a lot. And Fang knows
that, because he lives it every minute of every day.
And so does Iggy.
Because they're both Angels, really.
Angels of Darkness.
And maybe tonight, we'll fly so far away
We'll be lost before the
dawn
---
Iggy wishes he could see Fang, because the memories he has of Fang's face from
five years ago aren't anything like what he thinks Fang looks like now.
If only night can hold you where I can see you, my love
He misses seeing things, but the
only thing he truly regrets not being able to see is Fang. Because he can build a picture of the face he knows by touch, and
contrast it with his memories, but he doesn't know for sure.
And that kills him.
Then let me never
ever wake again
Because the one thing he wants more than life itself he can't have. Even if that one, single
desire is so petty, and self-centred.
His second wish is not that much better. And it's more of an ultimatum than
a wish. Either the flock knows about them, or they leave, because Iggy can't stand them being together only when the eyes
aren't watching.
And maybe tonight, we'll fly so far away
We'll be lost before the dawn
Because Fang loves Iggy, and Iggy loves Fang.
