On with the story.

"Fang, we need to talk!" Max shouted as Fang restlessly paced Anne's living room.

"You've been avoiding me for weeks; what's up?" Fang threw himself on the recliner in the corner. It had been a month since he had gotten out of the hospital and since 'the kiss'.

He knew max would corner him eventually, he was just hoping for more time before she did.

He didn't want to talk about it, heck he didn't know what he thought about it; how was he supposed to deal with what she thought about it?

"Not now Max, I'm still trying to get full strength back up and I need time to think o.k.?"

Max took a step back, Fang was avoiding her and he told her so in possibly more words then he had said all week. She knew she had to back off , but it was hard when she found herself falling in love with someone she thought of as a brother.

"G'night Nick."

"Night."

Man this sucked, he honestly didn't know what to do and
Fang always knew what to do, it was his talent. Angel could read minds, Max had a voice in her head, Gazzy was a walking stink bomb, Nudge felt vibes and Iggy... No, he told himself, he wasn't going to think about Iggy. And he knew what was going on what to think what to do. Sighing Fang jumped up and wanders out the back door.

********

Iggy tensed as he felt someone come up behind him. He didn't want to over react. After The white coats had taken his eyes his other senses had become so strong to the point were he had to question them. Was there really someone behind him or a mouse running across the street 6 blocks down? They had wanted to prefect his night vision, well good job guys he could see just as well at night as he could in the day now, he thought bitterly. He heard the toe of a boot scrape the ground an relaxed a bit, it was Fang, the only one to walk toe heal out of the whole flock.

"Hey Fang whatcha doing out here?"

"I got in a semi fight with max, you?"

Iggy heard Fang settle next to him on the grass the immediate warmth that seemed to pour off Fang was delicious and Iggy forced himself not to lean back into it.

"I couldn't sleep."

"Why not?"

Jumping up, Iggy tore away from Fang, shouting I just couldn't o.k.?! Leave me alone!"

"What the heck," Fang thought to himself , that was the closest he had ever seen Ig come to a break down. He was the strong silent type who liked to make things go boom.

"Iggy!" He shouted running to catch up with the younger boy "You can tell me what's wrong, Iggy, please?" When the taller boy turned his back on him Fang stretched out his arm and caught Iggy by the wrist "I've known you my whole life and vice versa, come on Ig, if you cant tell me who can you tell?"

Sighing, Iggy sat back on the grass and began pulling up loose blades of grass. "I have nightmares Fang, well that's not quite right, I have good dreams then I wake up to a nightmare." Fang watched as Iggy's shoulders slumped and his voice caught in his throat. "I remember Fang, I remember seeing, knowing what its like, knowing that the sky is blue and the grass is green and knowing what grass and sky look like. I remember what the insides of our crates looked like and I remember what you and Max looked like. I mean at the ripe age of 8, and I think I know what you look like now, but I cant put it into words." Fang stared in horror as suddenly his best friend began to softly ,he hadn't seen Iggy cry since the first day they brought him back, and the soft amber eyes he had grown to trust had been blotted out simply a horrible white. "I have theses dreams were I can see I see everything, I can see the things you all have to tell me are there but when I wake up I cant see, its all just dark and the worst part I forget. I'm stuck in that place were you can't tell what's real, the dream or the waking. I get confused and I'll actually forget for just a few moments that I'm blind and for those first few moments every morning I'm terrified." Iggy finally looked up and over to were he thought Fang would be.

Fang couldn't believe what he was seeing, what he was feeling he was watching his best friend sob for the first time in years, but the thing that really scared him was the sudden desire to lean over and kiss the tears streaming down Iggy's face away.

*********

Reaching over, Fang grabbed Iggy's hand and pulled him closer. "Iggy, why havn't you ever said anything?"

Giving off a short laugh Iggy shakes his head and whispers "It doesn't matter, there are bigger things going on that we need to be worrying about," wiping his face he adds, "Max has the voice and is apparently supposed to save the world, so frankly I think my problems need to be on the back burner." Standing, Fang pulled Iggy to his feet and led him back to the house.

"Come on, we need to sleep, we have a big day tomorrow."

"Yay school, watch me jump for joy," Iggy laughed sarcastically and walked back into his room, as he turned to close the door, Fang stops him and adds, "If you wake up again just come on down to my room."

**********

Iggy flopped himself gracelessly down on to the bed and tried not to think about Fang, He would be o.k. if he didn't think about it. "Don't even think it Ig, don't think it," he scolded himself. He wasn't going to think about Fang. He wasn't going to think about how whenever Fang was around he relaxed, or everything got a little quieter , or how he walked a little closer when Fang was leading him. As he rolled over and tried to force himself back to sleep because if he was sleeping he wouldn't be thinking about how he was falling in love with his brother.

**************

"Nick, Jeff you two will be sitting in the seat at the back unless there is somewhere else you would prefer?"

"No, it's fine," Iggy jumped in. He was so sick of all the "exceptions" made for him. Registering him in the same classes as Fang, being late to class so he could tour the school. He didn't want any special attention, he just wanted to blend. The only problem was it was hard to blend when you were nearly 6 feet tall, blind and 14.

**********

Fang felt Iggy tense beside him as the teacher made her offer. He knew the younger boy didn't appreciate all the attention, and part of him wanted to scream, "If you all would just leave him alone he'd do fine!" He reached over to grab Iggy's elbow and led him to the back of the class room and to their seats.

*************

"So how was everyone's day?" Max asked as they wandered down the street. They had promised they wouldn't draw attention to themselves and that's what they were doing. Not drawing attention walking, like normal kids.

"It was fun," Angel called out, "We read stories and I learned some new math. I made friends to real friends!" Her enthusiasm made Max smile. At least Angel was starting to have a normal life. Well as normal as a first grader who can read minds, breath under water, talk to fish, impose her will on others, and fly, could get.

"What about you Gazzy?"

"It was kind of lame, some kid on the play ground was a real big jerk to me. But my classes were o.k. I guess." Gazzy turned his face down as they continued walking. His day wasn't as wonderful as his sisters but disappointment was normal.

"What about you max?" Nudge asked.

"My day was o.k., the headmaster wanted to talk to me a couple times to ask about my all of you but nothing too bad, I think I made a friend, kind of."

"I had fun, it kind of stinks though, no one knows me so they don't listen, and some of the girls wouldn't let me play with them at recess."

"I'm sorry Nudge," Iggy told her as she grabbed his hand to lead him around a corner that ever you else seemed to forget to tell him was the way to Anne's.

"It's o.k., I still had fun, it was like being normal, What about you?"

Iggy groaned softly. "It was a wonderful day of being stared at and having teachers fall all over themselves to
make sure I was o.k., and wasn't going to spontaneously combust if I didn't have help."

"Oh, so it sucked?" Max asked, "I'm sorry Ig."

"It's o.k., hey Fang, tell them about your day."

"Well, it started off "normal" I suppose we got put in the back of the room which just meant that everyone had to turn around to stare. I almost blew up the science umm lab..."

"Wait, you almost what!?" Max shouted at the top of her voice.

"I wasn't the only one, actually Iggy was the only one who didn't almost blow up the science lab surprisingly."

"Really?" Gazzy asked, clearly surprised.

"Really, she wanted us to mix two big no nos, I don't know how that woman can call herself a chemist. But I'm afraid my out burst of "No! Stop everyone, you never mix those two things!" kind of drew attention to us."

"Because being the new kids isn't enough to draw attention," Fang laughed as he reached back to put an arm across Iggy's shoulders, as he dropped his hand away he felt Iggy's hand find his hip then his belt loops. The sudden flush that filled his face surprised him, how could one touch from Iggy do such things to him? He had to mentally scold himself "You aren't supposed to be falling in love with your best friend Fang, you can't do this if you do you'll loose him."

*****************************

Iggy was startled to find Fangs arm around his shoulder and he hoped acting normal would help. As his hand brushed Fangs hip he instinctively rapped his finger through his belt loop. He always felt safer when Fang was leading him. He didn't talk much, he didn't describe things in great detail like Nudge did. He didn't tell Iggy where a step down or up was. No Fang couldn't read his mind like Angel and tell him, the night sky was a violet color with golden stars when he found himself wishing he could see. Fang let him be, let him fell and mimic the moves the older boy made and he could have some independence. It was nice.

"We're here!" Angel shouted and ran out in front of the others, bouncing through the front doors. The rest of the flock stayed behind a bit and tried to stall the inevitable "How was your day?" comments from Anne. She was a nice lady and all, but sometimes Iggy wished that it was just the flock again.

***************************

"Alright kids, I'm running up to the grocery store I shouldn't be gone more than an hour, hour and a half. I want you to all start your homework while I'm gone and I'll look over it when I get back." As soon as the door closed Iggy lay down on the table and groaned.

"This sucks."

"What sucks?" Fang asked, surprised at Iggy's outburst.

"How is the blind kid supposed to do homework, when he's been raised in a cage and then after he was done with that being raised thing lived in a cabin were T.V. was school?"

"We have all the same classes Ig, I'll read the work out to you."

"Thanks."

Standing back up, Fang grabbed Iggy by the wrist and dragging him to his room continued, "Come on, we should get started," as Fang dragged the reluctant Iggy down the hall way he heard Angel whisper, "He's thinking the same thing you are."

What in the name of hell could that mean? The only thing Iggy had been thinking and trying to keep himself from, for the simple fact of his terrifying, beautiful little sister, was about Fang.
